Nissan ProPILOT Assist Reduces The Hassle of Heavy Highway Traffic

ProPILOT Assist by Nissan is a revolutionary autonomous driving technology for long highway trips and stop and go traffic of daily commute. According to Nissan, its ProPILOT Assist is the most affordable and compelling example of level 2 self-driving. We accord with Nissan’s claim, as quite evidently, self-driving is offered by several other auto makers, but on cars costing a lot more than Nissan. Nissan is the first Japanese automaker to introduce a combination of steering, accelerator and braking that can be operated in full automatic mode. Nissan has made sure that its customers enjoy a seamless experience, whether while driving or during Nissan auto repair.

What is Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist?

The ProPILOT Assist by Nissan is a hands-on driving assistant designed to ease driver workload in long trips and heavy highway traffic. The system maintains a gap between your car and the one in front of you by using a front radar sensor and front facing camera located behind the rear-view camera. The ProPILOT Assist system is a combination of Nissan’s steering assist technologies and intelligent cruise control.

Features

  • Automatic speed control and pre-set speed and maintains vehicle to vehicle distance with a preset range.
  • The system also helps the car maintain the highway lane by reading lane markers and providing small steering inputs.
  • Automatic brake and throttle control to maintain safe distance between cars. The system makes the car completely stop in traffic situations and continues to apply brakes until released by the simple push of a button.
  • The assist keeps the car in the center of the driving lane on straight roads and even through sharp corners.
  • The system works through information received from a mono camera equipped with advanced image processing software. The camera can quickly recognize three-dimensional depth.

How ProPILOT Assit works?

Nissan is known for crafting vehicles that place utmost importance to quality and reliability, hence, ensuring many years of comfortable driving without overpriced Nissan auto repair. The ProPILOT system also boasts the same reliability and quality. To get the system running, the driver of ProPILOT Assist-equipped vehicle has to simply enable the system by pressing the button mounted on the steering wheel. He will have to then set the preferred speed and distance they want to follow the car in front of them. Once engaged and the lane markers are detected, the instrument panel’s grey steering wheel button and lane line icons turn to green. The car is then in self-driving mode and will provide small steering inputs to maintain the lane. The system will deliver several visual and audible alerts if it doesn’t detect a hand on the wheel. If the driver still does not place his hands, they system will pulse the brakes and if both these warnings are ignored, the system will bring the car to a complete halt.

The system is ideally meant for highway driving, hence, it’s a boon for long-haul drivers. Its affordability and Nissan’s credibility make it a must-own technology for highway commuters. Currently, Nissan Rogue and Leaf are available with this technology at the Nissan dealerships in Dallas.
