Even though, the sales of old and new cars appear to be slow, new technologies for vehicles are making its way to the scenario like never before. As the traditional industry boundaries shift to a new perspective, automakers and brands are forced to compete on multiple fronts and launch the most advanced technologies in the market to survive and grow. Diverse mobility, autonomous driving, electrification and connectivity have become the latest trends in the auto industry.

Autonomous cars or self-driving cars is the new future and it would rely on the smart infrastructure to guide cars on roadways. Many experts believe that the driverless technology can reduce the road deaths by a greater extent. However, significant hurdles remain in the development and implementation of autonomous cars. Many automakers have been working on the future of self-driving cars.

Nissan, one of the internationally renowned auto manufacturers is a case in point.  It was the first company to launch lane driving technology in a mass market car. The Japanese automobile manufacturer has always been at the forefront of technological innovation and their driverless cars have made its way to the European roads. Nissan have been using self-driving Leaf cars around its production facility in Japan. Moreover, the car maker has also tested the autonomous technology on the public roads of Japan and the United States. Both urban and rural settings were chosen for the trial. Various technologies and tools are integrated to the vehicle so that they can be fine tuned to perfection. Testing in real-world scenarios and dynamic driving environment will allow the vehicle to act in response to specific changes. Every system of the car must work in synchronization to collect and interpret vast amount of information.

Driverless cars are a part of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, a long-term vision unveiled by Nissan at the Geneva International Motor Show. This vision pursues a goal of zero emission vehicles and zero fatalities on the road. And the Japanese automaker has already wowed the automotive industry with its Intelligent Lane Intervention system and the Around-View Monitor. The latest innovation termed as ProPilot technology will be featured in the second generation of Nissan LEAF, which makes a dream of self-driving vehicle a bit closer to reality.
